Second Group

Watching a sea lion learn to swim is an amazing thing. Sea lions are not born swimmers. They need lessons just like people. A pup is a young sea lion. At one month old, the mother lifts up the pup by its neck and drops it in the water. As it sinks, the mother goes under the pup and pushes it up so it can get air. Then she brings it to land and feeds it.

A little while later, the pup is put in the water again. It starts to learn to move its flippers. Gradually, in a few weeks, the pup learns to swim. When it can finally swim, it loves the water. It will dive and it will catch fish. Now it can really have fun!
